Gareth was born at ‘The London Clinic’ Devonshire Place, London W1, during a Royal Court Theatre matinée performance of Lindsay Anderson’s “A Day In the Life Of” staring Gareth’s father, who was rushed to the scene by police escort whilst still wearing full theatrical make-up and period costume,
(much to the amusement of the hospital staff and awaiting photographers).
There was hardly enough time to deposit the case of champagne and two dozen white roses to the bedside of his exhausted wife, Paddie, before Alfred was whisked back to the theatre in time for the second show.
Gareth has one sister, Danielle.
His parents: ‘Alfred Marks OBE.’ and ‘Paddie O’Neil.
Gareth’s career has taken him all over the world, living and working in Europe, Canada and the USA.
He made his first feature film “Scramble” at age 10.
A year later he appeared in the film “Fiddler On The roof” By the age of 13 he was contracted for a diverse collection of feature films ranging from: “Kes” (Ken Loach)
and “Young Winston” (Richard Attenborough) to “Tales From The Crypt”
(with Ralph Richardson and Peter Cushing).
It was his work in film dubbing and singing on film soundtracks that that brought him to the attention of record producers where he found a second career in session singing.
In the 1970’s good session singers were very much in demand for record companies,
TV shows, Film etc.
Signed as a songwriter from an early age, Gareth has work published by companies including: Southern Music Publishing Co, GMO Music, Chrysalis Music Publishing Co,
Dick James Music Publishing Co, EMI Publishing Co, GTO Music Publishing Co.
and others..
Gareth is involved with all types of music for record companies, film sound tracks, theatre, television and advertising.
